3ch (=1dc), 2dc, 2ch
[3dc, 2ch] X 3
sl st at 3rd ch
For Round 1: first make the the center:
Start with a magic ring. watch slow and detailed video tutorial on my channel.
Now we build the square foundation.
Add two more Chains — this counts as your first double crochet.
Now work 2 more double crochets into the ring.
You now have 3 double crochets.
Make two Chains — this creates a corner.
Repeat this pattern 3 more times:
Three double crochet… chain 2.
So the pattern inside the ring is:
[3 double crochet, chain 2] x 4 Pull tight the yarn tail to close the center hole.
Slip stitch to top of beginning chain 3.
You should now have four groups — this forms the four sides of your square.

sl st at 3rd ch
For Round 2: Making it a SQUARE
First, Chain 3 = counts as first double crochet.
Now in that same corner space:
Work 2 double crochet.
Now move to the next corner space. Work 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet.
This created a full corner. So, for next two corner spaces.
Repeat: 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet.
Now move to the first corner space.
Make 3 double crochet and chain 2.
Slip stitch at the top of chain three.
Now, you should have four corners.
Each corner has: 3 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 3 Double Crochet.
Round 3:
1st corner: 3ch (=1dc), 2dc
Side Spaces: 3dc
Corners: 3dc, 2ch, 3dc;
1st corner: 3dc, 2ch,
sl st at 3rd ch
For Round 3:
Between corners, we now work into side spaces also. In the side space you have to make 3 double crochet.
Similar to the corner of previous round, make chain three, count as one double crochet; and work two double crochet into the same corner space.
In the side space: work 3 double crochet.
Then at the corner: 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet.
In the side space: 3 double crochet.
So Round 3 pattern is:
At the corner: 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet. In the side space: 3 double crochet. So, repeat the pattern around.
Now, in the first corner, make three double crochet and chain 2.
Slip stitch at top of chain three.
Round 4
Repeat Round 3
1st corner: 3ch (=1dc), 2dc
Side Spaces: 3dc
Corners: 3dc, 2ch, 3dc;
1st corner: 3dc, 2ch,
sl st at 3rd ch
To make your granny square bigger, just repeat Round 3.
Every new round adds:
• More side spaces
• Same corner formula. Corners NEVER change: 3 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 3 Double Crochet. Side spaces: 3 double crochet.
Once your square is the size you want… Slip stitch to join.
Insert the hook from the back and pull the yarn loop. This will secure the granny square.
Fasten off and Weave in ends.

And that’s your granny square.
