Crochet Coaster Pattern (Step-by-Step)
This easy crochet coaster for beginners is worked in 5 rounds.
Round 1: [Crochet Coaster Center] mr, 2ch, 11dc, sl st; Total 12 sts
For Round 1:
Make a magic ring.
Work 2 Chains; [= count as 1 double crochet stitch]
Work 11 double crochet into the ring.

Pull the yarn tail tight to close the ring.
Slip stitch at the top of the first double crochet to join the round.
Total 12 stitches.
Round 1 complete.
You now have the coaster center.
Round 2: [Increase Round] 2ch (=1dc), 2dc in the same st; 2dc in each st around; At the end, 1dc in the 1st st; sl st; Total 24 sts
Make 2 double crochet in the same stitch.
Now onwards, 2 double crochet in each stitch around.
At the end of Round 2, make 1 double crochet in the first stitch.
Count your stitches.
Total 24 stitches in Round 2.
Now, make a slip stitch at the top of the first double crochet to join the round.
Round 2 complete.
This increase round helps the crochet coaster lay flat.
Round 3: [Increase Round] 2ch (=1dc), 2dc in the same st; 1dc in the next st; REPEAT [2dc in the next st; 1dc in the next st]; sl st; Total 36 sts
For Round 3, make 2 chains; [= count as 1 double crochet.]
Make 2 double crochet in the same stitch.
Now, make 1 double crochet in the next stitch.
In the next stitch, make 2 double crochet.
In the next stitch, make 1 double crochet.
Now REPEAT the pattern:

At the end of the round, count your stitches.
Total 36 stitches in Round 3.

Round 3 complete.

At the end of the Round, count your stitches.
Total 48 stitches in round 4.
Now, slip stitch at the top of first double crochet to join the round.

Round 5: [Crochet Coaster Border] 1ch, 1sc in the same st; skip 1 st; 5dc in the next st; skip 1 st; REPEAT [skip 1 st; 5dc in the next st; skip 1 st; 1sc in the next st]; sl st; fasten off. Total 12 scallopes
Now, we are going to design the Border in Round 5.
First, make 1 chain. [don't count as stitch]
And make 1 single crochet into the same stitch.
Skip 1 stitch.
In the next stitch, make 5 double crochet.
Skip 1 stitch.
Make 1 single crochet in the next stitch.
Now REPEAT:
[Skip 1 stitch.
Make 5 double crochet in the next stitch;
Skip 1 stitch;
1 single crochet in the next stitch]....................... Around..............
At the end of the Round, slip stitch into the first single crochet.
Total 12 scallops on the border.
This creates a clean coaster border.

Cut the yarn leaving a short tail.
